10,000 cops on guard ahead of NYE festivities

As many as 10,000 security and traffic personnel were deployed across the Capital on Sunday near prominent markets and public places as the city ushered in the New Year 2024.
As the holiday fell on a weekend, thousands of people thronged areas like India Gate, Connaught Place and the Delhi zoo to celebrate - where around 2,000 security personnel were deployed.
Although no traffic or security advisory was issued for police arrangements for the New Year on Monday, officers said their personnel would be on standby and necessary arrangements would be made as required. Police officers said they expect a significant number of people to turn up at India Gate on Monday evening as well.
