The Centre has proposed to include the Union Territory of Chandigarh under the ambit of Article 240 of the Constitution, which empowers the President to make regulations for the UT and legislate directly, triggering a political row.
According to the Lok Sabha bulletin, the Union government is preparing to introduce The Constitution (13st Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the upcoming winter session—a move that could significantly alter Chandigarh’s administrative structure.
