Tribal Group Seeks Probe Into Centre's 'Operation Kagar'

The Adivasi Sangharsh Morcha (ASM) has demanded a judicial probe into the violence and encounter deaths during 'Operation Kagar', a large-scale anti-Naxalite mission aimed at eliminating Maoist insurgents in Chhattisgarh in January 2024.

A resolution letter issued by the organisation after its two-day convention at the Social Development Centre on Kamil Bulke Path in Ranchi stated, "The killings of tribals during 'Operation Kagar' are an extension of the policy of extrajudicial violence against tribals and are contrary to the rule of constitutional law. The Modi government cannot be allowed to adopt such a policy under the guise of fighting the Maoists. The ASM demands a judicial inquiry into each extrajudicial encounter killing. We also demand the abolition of the reward policy, which encourages such killings."
