State Discoms Propose Hike in Electricity Tariff

Jaipur, Ajmer, and Jodhpur Electricity Distribution Corporations (Discoms) have filed a proposal with the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC) on Saturday seeking a revision in electricity tariffs.

JAIPUR: If approved, this revision will introduce a regulatory surcharge of ₹1 per unit in consumer bills.

The RERC will give a decision on increase in tariffs after a public hearing where consumer bodies can put up their representations on the government move. While the discoms have proposed to reduce tariffs for most categories, the fixed charges have been increased.

According to the petition, the small and poor consumers who use up to 50 units of electricity will be hit the hardest by the proposed hike.

The tariff for them is proposed to be raised by 25%.

Currently the tariff for up to 50 units of electricity is ₹4.75 per unit which will rise to ₹6 per unit, if the RERC approves the power hike.
