DC Warns Schools Over RTE Admission Delays

The district administration of Ranchi has fixed a deadline of July 7 to complete the admission of children from disadvantaged groups and weaker sections of society to the seats reserved for them in private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

RANCHI: The decision comes after the administration found that a majority of government-affiliated private schools in the state capital failed to admit such students on time, officials familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.

Deputy commissioner (DC) Manjunath Bhajanti issued the directive on Tuesday to 72 private schools across the district under section 12(1)(C) of the RTE Act, which mandates the reservation of 25 per cent of seats in entry-level classes in recognised private schools for children from disadvantaged groups and weaker sections. Citing the Act, the DC expressed concern over the delay in admitting poor students.
