Congress Warns BJP Against Creating Row Over Tribal Languages

Hindustan Times Ranchi

June 16, 2025

Amid the Opposition alleging that the state government did not grant tribal language status in certain regions, the Congress on Sunday warned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against creating any controversy over the issue in Jharkhand.

- Raj Kumar

RANCHI:

"BJP wants to open its political shop by making language a matter of controversy in Jharkhand, but the INDIA bloc government will shut down its political shop before it opens," said Congress state spokesperson Sonal Shanti.

The statement came after BJP's former legislator from Godda, Amit Mandal, organised a press conference on Saturday at the BJP state headquarters in Ranchi, alleging that the state government did not grant tribal language status to Mundari in Khunti and local language status to Bhojpuri in Palamu-Garhwa, and Angika and Kurmali in Godda while preparing rules for the Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test (JTET) examination.
