Taxi driver injured after car hits convoy of CM, dies; toll at 2

JAIPUR: A 29-year-old taxi driver who was injured when the convoy of chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma met with an accident in Jaipur on Wednesday, died during treatment on Thursday, officials familiar with the matter said, adding that a total of two people have died and five others were injured in the incident.

Sharma was returning from the Rising Rajasthan Summit on Wednesday and heading to attend a programme of Laghu Udyog Bharti when a car came from the wrong side and collided with an escort vehicle of CM's convoy in Jagatpura area of Jaipur on Wednesday.

"The CM's carcade was moving on the Jagatpura road when a car came from the wrong side and collided with an escort vehicle," SHO of Ramnagaria police station Arun Kumar said, adding another vehicle in the carcade also was hit. "The car also injured a traffic officer when he tried to stop it. Two tourists sustained minor injuries during the incident."

Kumar said that five policemen and two tourists were injured, adding that the CM himself rushed one of the injured to the hospital in his car. The injured were admitted to the SMS Hospital and Mahatma Gandhi Hospital.
