HC Seeks Reply as Govt Scraps District Status of Gangapur City

The Rajasthan high court on Monday sought a reply from the state government within two weeks on the dissolution of the Gangapur City district.
JAIPUR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government annulled it along with eight other new districts on December 28 last year and they were formed during the previous Congress government's tenure in 2023, officials aware of the matter said.
The order came in response to a petition filed by Congress MLA from Gangapur City Ramkesh Meena on January 5 in the high court, seeking to restore the status of Gangapur City as a district, which was carved out of Karauli and Sawai Madhopur districts.
"A division bench of the Chief Justice Madan Mohan Shrivastava and Justice Uma Shankar Sharma on Monday asked the government to file their statement over the issue before the court within two weeks. We have appealed the court to reinstate the status of the Gangapur City district, which was scrapped due to a political agenda of the BJP," Meena said after the court hearing.
The BJP government on December 28 annulled nine of the 17 new districts and all three new divisions formed by the previous Congress government ahead of the state assembly election last year, officials said.
