Businesses now under ambit of services law

Madhya Pradesh has decided to cover applications seeking permissions for industries and businesses in the state under the MP Public Service Guarantee Act, which means these will have to be approved within a mandated period, government officials familiar with the matter said.

The move is aimed at boosting investment and employment in the state.

To be sure, it is likely the law will need to be amended because it currently only guarantees public services such as installing electricity or water meters or providing land records within a stipulated time with failure to do so resulting in penal action against the officials responsible for providing the service.

"The government has decided to include industry permissions under the law to ensure that the service for investors is guaranteed in a specific time frame to prevent any harassment," one of the officials cited above said on condition of anonymity.
