89% of women construction workers in Raj failed to receive maternity scheme benefits: Govt data

The maternity assistance scheme of the state government for the women construction workers has benefitted only 11% of the intended beneficiaries with 89% being deprived of the benefits, according to the data by Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare (BOCW) board.
JAIPUR:
The Prasuti Sahayata Yojana was launched in 2018 to offer financial assistance to pregnant women from registered construction worker families in the state. "In 2023-2024, the scheme targeted to provide financial assistance to 17,850 women labourers but only 1,832 women (89%) got the benefits," as per the data.
The BOCW board, which runs the scheme, has set a fixed number of beneficiaries, who are eligible to avail the scheme, in each district. However, the department data has revealed that Alwar, Dholpur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Rajsamand and Tonk districts failed to provide the maternity benefits to even a single beneficiary. Other districts did provide the benefits but much lower than the targets.
