India Sets Asset Sale Target at $5.4 Billion

India proposed a modest increase in the government's asset sale target for the fiscal year beginning April, indicating it will continue its reliance on dividends from state-run firms and the central bank to bridge its budget deficit.
The finance ministry aims to mop up ₹47,000 crore ($5.4 billion) by selling stakes in government-run companies next fiscal year, according to the budget document presented in parliament Saturday.
