Two cousins from Gopalganj held hostage in Myanmar

Two cousins from Gopalganj were allegedly abducted in Myanmar at gunpoint to work in a fraudulent call centre that targets people from across the globe, police said.

The abductees were identified as Raushan Wahid and Saud Ali, both belonging to Fatehpur village of the said district.

It is noted that the victims, along with other Indian, Nepali and Pakistani citizens, were lured by agents who promised them lucrative jobs in Thailand.

Investigation revealed that these gullible youths were reportedly lured with jobs abroad. Upon arriving, they were held captive at call centres and forced into cyber fraud operations. The racket is believed to have international connections in countries like Myanmar and Laos.

Following the incident, Ali's father, Roshan Ali, lodged a first information report (FIR) at Mirganj police station against a Uttar Pradesh-based agent, Neeraj Yadav, alleging that he had taken money for sending them abroad.
