Protests Erupt at Bihar's Chhapra After Two Businessmen Shot Dead

Two prominent businessmen were shot dead by armed criminals in Saran district late on Tuesday evening, police said.

The incident triggered protests in Chhapra town—the political bastion of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, who was first elected to the Lok Sabha from here.

The victims were identified as Amarendra Singh, owner of a Godrej showroom, and his business partner Shambhu Singh. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Mufassil police station. Amarendra Singh, a former mayoral candidate and president of the local Rotary Club, was a well-known figure in the community.

According to police, the two were returning home on a motorbike after closing their showroom in Salempur Harimohan Gali when they were ambushed by two bike-borne assailants near Sadha Dhala. Shambhu Singh was shot in the head and Amarendra in the chest. Locals and police rushed them to Chhapra Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.
