Chandrasekhar set to take over as Kerala BJP chief

KOCHI/NEW DELHI: Former Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar is set to become the Bharatiya Janata Party's Kerala unit president with a formal announcement expected on Monday, people familiar with the matter said on Sunday.
The 60-year-old's name was recommended by the party's state in-charge Prakash Javadekar and co-in-charge Aparajita Sarangi at the BJP state core committee meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, following which the three-time Rajya Sabha MP filed his nomination papers, the people cited above said requesting anonymity.
Confirming the development, core committee member V Muraleedharan said "Rajeev Chandrasekhar filed his nomination papers. The party's core committee members and senior leaders have backed it." Muraleedharan added that Chandrasekhar's election is likely to be unanimous as no other leader filed nomination papers. "The formal announcement will be made on Monday by Union minister Pralhad Joshi."
