5 Killed, 35 Injured as Bus Falls into a Gorge

Five people were killed and 35 others were injured after a bus carrying pilgrims fell into a 35-foot-deep gorge in Dang district of Gujarat on Sunday, police said.

The incident took place at 4.15 am near the Saputara hill station when the private bus, carrying 48 passengers from Madhya Pradesh, broke the crash barrier and fell into the gorge. Officials suspect the bus driver lost control of the vehicle before it hit the barrier.
"Five people died on the spot and 17 others suffered serious injuries and have been rushed to a civil hospital at Ahwa. Some others have sustained minor injuries. The rescue operation is nearly over," superintendent of police SG Patil said.
