Gaza demilitarisation must for phase 2 truce
Hindustan Times Mumbai
|March 05, 2025
Israel foreign minister Gideon Saar said on Tuesday that Israel demands Gaza's "full demilitarisation" and Hamas's removal in order to proceed to the second phase of a January ceasefire deal.
-
JERUSALEM:
"We don't have an agreement on phase two. We demand total demilitarisation of Gaza, Hamas and Islamic Jihad out, and give us our hostages. If they agree to that we can implement tomorrow," Saar told a news conference in Jerusalem.
Fighting in Gaza has been halted since January 19 under a truce arranged with US support and Qatari and Egyptian mediators, and Hamas has exchanged 33 Israeli hostages and five Thais for some 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees.
