Centre opposes Pb plea in HC against releasing extra water

The Centre on Tuesday told the Punjab and Haryana high court that the plea filed by Punjab government seeking modification of a May 6 order, which asked the state to release additional water to Haryana, be dismissed.
CHANDIGARH:
The affidavit, filed by Union power ministry's deputy director Anil Kumar Gautam, said that the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) sent a reference to the power ministry on the dispute between the two states on April 29, but it did not relate to "a question of policy or the rights of any participating state", which the ministry is to adjudicate upon.
"Rather, it was an operational matter," the affidavit said, adding that BBMB was then advised to resolve the issue at a board meeting.
