2006 Nanded blast case: Court acquits 9 accused

The Nanded sessions court has acquitted all the nine accused in the 2006 Nanded blast case in view of the prosecution's failure to prove how and from where the material was acquired by the nine men to prepare the pipe bomb.

MUMBAI:

The CBI had named 10 persons in the case as accused. It was claimed that the men had links with certain Hindu extremist organisations and were responsible for the blast at the residence of Laxman Gundayya Rajkondawar, which killed two and injured four.

Additional sessions judge Chandrashekhar V Marathe observed that the prosecution has not tendered any documents to establish that the organisations were notified as 'Terrorist Organisation' by the central government at the relevant time.

On April 6, 2006, a powerful blast took place at the residence of Rajkondawar in Patbandhare Nagar, Nanded, which killed two persons - Hemanshu Panse and Naresh Rajkondwar, identified as co-accused by the CBI. The blast was subsequently linked to the various explosions that took place in masjids in Jalna, Purna and Parbhani in 2003 and 2004.
