Not long after India's 3-1 series loss to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the discussions around a rift between coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma were growing.

NEW DELHI:

Although captain-coach duo won the Champions Trophy together after that, other developments in cricket such as assistant coach Abhishek Nayyar's sacking and BCCI's diktats aimed at 'star players' added to the discourse.

As questions about Rohit's future, especially in the Test team, grow ahead of India's Tour of England in June, Gambhir claimed that he has little role as a coach in squad selection and that Rohit and Virat Kohli can play for as long as they are performing or take an individual call on their careers.
