MUMBAI: Over 40 people were detained as violent protests rocked Parbhani in central Maharashtra for a second day on Wednesday over the vandalism of a replica of the Constitution of India near a statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar in the city, prompting the administration to impose prohibitory orders, officers said.
A large group of protesters torched vehicles and pelted stones at shops amid the bandh called by Ambedkarite activists in the city, following which the police used tear gas to disperse the crowd, a police officer said.
