Recycled C&D waste finds few takers among agencies

Amid Delhi's plans to set up more plants to process construction and demolition (C&D) waste, there have been few takers for recycled products, such as interlocking tiles, paver blocks, chequered tiles, kerb stones, and concrete bricks.
Government agencies are also lagging behind targets, despite directions from the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs calling for increased use of such products, according to a report filed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
In its report to the Delhi government, the MCD flagged that only 14% of the target was met in 2024-25.
“MoHUA has given directions to various government departments and set the target for off take and utilisation of by products. Annual off take of approximately 2,30,904MT (14%) of recycled products was made against the target of 16,01500 MT in 2024-25. The targets have been reduced by 2025-26 to make them more realistic. New targeted offtake of products for 2025-26 is 9,85,250 MT against which 3.97% of target have been achieved from April | to August 15,” the report read.
