Nato 'stays ready', Russia says didn't reject peace plan
Hindustan Times Gurugram
|December 04, 2025
Nato secretary-general Mark Rutte on Wednesday hit back at Russian President Vladimir Putin's hawkish comments that Russia did not want it, but would be "ready for war" with Europe.
Talking to journalists at the alliance's foreign ministers meeting in Brussels, Rutte said, "Finally, Nato is a defensive alliance. We will remain a defensive alliance, but make no mistake, we are ready and willing to do what it takes to protect our 1 billion people and secure our territory."
The Kremlin said on Wednesday that President Vladimir Putin accepted some US proposals aimed at ending the war in Ukraine and rejected others but that Russia was ready to meet US negotiators as many times as it took to reach an agreement.
