Human Rights Watchdog Raps Haryana Govt For Fewer Old Age Homes
Hindustan Times Gurugram
|April 17, 2025
The Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC) has pulled up government officials over the slow progress in building old age homes across the state, revealing that only one such facility—in Rewari—is currently operational despite repeated directives, officials aware of the matter said.
GURUGRAM:
In a compliance review conducted according to its order dated January 31, the commission found that the Rewari Old Age Home, inaugurated on January 6, 2023, remains the only functional government-run shelter for senior citizens in the state. Even this facility, built to accommodate 170 people, was found grossly underutilized, with just 12 occupants—nine men and three women—and plagued by sanitation and staffing issues.
