Custodial death: Himachal IGP, 7 cops get life term

Custodial death is one of the worst crimes in a civilised society governed by the rule of law, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Chandigarh remarked on Monday, as it sentenced Himachal Pradesh inspector general of police (IGP) Zahur Haider Zaidi and seven other police officers to life imprisonment in a 2017 custodial death case.
CHANDIGARH:
The sentencing came nearly 10 days after the court of special CBI judge Alka Malik convicted Zaidi and others on January 18 in the custodial death case of an accused in the gang rape-murder of a girl in Kotkhai in Shimla district in July 2017. The court also imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh each on the convicts.
