U'khand govt, Icelandic firm ink pact on geothermal energy exploration

The Uttarakhand government on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Icelandic company, VERKIS Consulting Engineers, for exploration and development of geothermal energy in the state, said officials aware of the matter.
DEHRADUN:
The MoU was signed in the presence of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who virtually attended the function, and Benedikt Hoskuldsson, the ambassador of Iceland.
Dhami described the MoU as a milestone in the field of energy security and sustainable development of Uttarakhand as well as the country. He said, "Through this MoU regarding geothermal energy, not only the goal of clean and renewable energy will be achieved but the path of inclusive development will also be paved while ensuring environmental security."
The CM said, "Iceland is a leading country in the field of geothermal energy and with their technical cooperation and experience, Uttarakhand will emerge as an important state in the field of geothermal energy."
