Signature View: Court bars forced eviction of residents

The Delhi High Court on Thursday restrained the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) from taking coercive action against nine flat owners of Signature View Apartments in Mukherjee Nagar until August 25.
A bench of Chief Justice DK Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela passed the interim order while hearing a plea by residents challenging eviction notices issued by the DDA and the MCD’s involvement in enforcing evacuation. The residents had earlier approached the court seeking protection from forceful eviction, citing a pending legal challenge.
Senior advocate Maninder Acharya, appearing for the residents, argued that eviction notices were being served even though the DDA’s appeal against a December 2023 judgment had not stayed the original order.
Acharya said that while residents were prepared to continue living at their own risk, authorities must not use force in the interim.
