SC upholds HC’s order on probe against ex-top cop

SC ASKED POLICE, NOT SPECIAL CELL, TO PROBE AND ASKED FOR PROBE TO BE EXPEDITED AND FINISHED BY THREE MONTHS
The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld a Delhi High Court order directing the registration of criminal cases against former Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar and another officer, Vinay Kumar Pandey, observing that “those who investigate should also be investigated to ensure the common man’s faith” in the system is kept alive.
The allegations pertain to the late 1990s when Kumar was deputed to the CBI as its joint director and Pandey served as a CBI inspector. The two complainants, Sheesh Ram Saini and Vijay Agarwal, accused the officers of fabricating documents in cases from 2001 and 2004 and of detaining the latter despite bail.
