Monsoon withdrawal begins in West Raj; earliest in 10 yrs: IMD

Southwest monsoon began its withdrawal from parts of West Rajasthan on Sunday — three days ahead of the normal date of September 17, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, making it the earliest such retreat in a decade.
“Southwest monsoon has withdrawn from some parts of Rajasthan today,” IMD said in a press release. “Conditions are favourable for withdrawal of southwest monsoon from some more parts of Rajasthan and some parts of Punjab and Gujarat during next 2-3 days.”
Southwest monsoon has withdrawn with the fulfilment of IMD’s criteria: development of an anticyclonic circulation over West Rajasthan at L5km above mean sea level; no rainfall over the region for five consecutive days;
