Kerala HC proceedings held up due to stench; civet blamed
Hindustan Times Delhi
|August 20, 2025
KOCHI: The proceedings before a division bench headed by the chief justice in the Kerala high court were disrupted on Tuesday due to a strong stench reportedly left behind by a common palm civet, people aware of the details said.

A staff member in the high court registrar general's office said the bench, comprising of chief justice Nitin Jamdar and justice Basant Balaji, ended proceedings within half an hour of sitting on Tuesday morning due to a foul odour.
“Apparently, the palm civet had urinated in court number 1, where the chief justice hears matters, resulting in the stench. After hearing urgent matters, all other proceedings were adjourned for the day,” the official said, requesting anonymity.
