Modi, Xi cement ties in 'elephant-dragon tango'

The top leadership of India and China exchanged messages to mark the 75th anniversary of bilateral ties, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying to his counterpart Li Qiang that progress in relations will contribute to global stability and the emergence of a multipolar world.

The content of the messages, released only by the Chinese side, reflected the growing thaw in bilateral relations since New Delhi and Beijing reached an understanding on October 21 last year to withdraw the remaining frontline forces from Ladakh sector of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), and a subsequent agreement between the top leadership to normalise the overall relationship.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, in his message to his Indian counterpart Droupadi Murmu, stressed on partnership between India and China for "mutual achievement" and the need for a "dragon-elephant tango" to serve the fundamental interests of both sides.
