DEHRADUN: A local court in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand on Friday sentenced three people, including the son of a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, for the 2022 murder of a woman who worked as a receptionist at a resort owned by the BJP leader.

The court of additional district and sessions judge Reena Negi sentenced Pulkit Arya, and his accomplices Saurabh Bhaskar and Ankit Gupta, along with a fine of ₹72,000 on Arya and ₹62,000 each on the other two.

"Pulkit Arya has been held guilty under sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), and 354A (molestation and outraging the modesty of a woman) of the IPC and section 5 (Procuring, inducing or taking [person] for the sake of prostitution) of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. His associates Saurabh Bhaskar and Ankit Gupta under sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the IPC and section 5 (Procuring, inducing or taking [person] for the sake of prostitution) of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act," prosecution lawyer Awnish Negi said.
