HC JUNKS MICHEL’S PLEA CHALLENGING EXTRADITION TREATY

The Delhi high court on Monday refused to entertain a petition filed by AgustaWestland VVIP chopper middleman Christian Michel, challenging a provision of the India-UAE extradition treaty which permits the prosecution of an extradited individual not only for the offences for which extradition is granted but also for connected offences.
The British national challenged section 17 of the treaty, signed in 1999. Michel was extradited from the UAE in 2018 and has remained in custody.
