Andhra govt withdrew Covid advisory to allow TDP to host 3-day conclave: YSRCP

A circular issued by the Andhra Pradesh government withdrawing its Covid-19 advisory three days after issuing the same has kicked up a political row, with the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Monday alleging that the decision was taken to facilitate the conduct of ruling Telugu Desam Party's three-day conclave Mahanadu, commencing at Kadapa on Tuesday.

The circular issued on Saturday by the commissioner of health and family welfare, who is also the director of National Health Mission in Andhra Pradesh, said the government decided to withdraw the advisory issued by the director of public health on May 21. The decision was taken as the Covid-19 situation in the state was under control and there was no spike in the number of cases in the state, which reported only three cases as on Saturday.

The commissioner, however, instructed all district medical and health officers to keep monitoring the situation closely, report all cases promptly, and take immediate action as per medical protocol in coordination with all concerned.
