SRINAGAR/JAMMU: A woman was killed and another injured as Pakistan intensified heavy artillery fire from across the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in key Jammu and Kashmir sectors, after its failed attempt to target Jammu airstrip and other installations in Punjab and Rajasthan.

According to defence officials, the Pakistani force intensified shelling in Uri, Kupwara, Tanghdar, Samba, RS Pura and Akhnoor sectors, among others.

The officials said Indian Army retaliated promptly and in a proportionate measure.

Officials identified the deceased woman as Nargis Bano. "Two injured women were brought here. One of them succumbed and the other is undergoing treatment," said a senior doctor at the Baramulla government medical college.

"There is heavy shelling at Abdullian in RS Pura sector. We are fleeing to safer places," said Rohit Choudhary, a local.

The Indian armed forces on Wednesday had carried out precise missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan under "Operation Sindoor".

After the failed attack from Pakistan, the Valley and Jammu city plunged into darkness as an unplanned blackout was enforced in multiple areas across J&K.
