Keeping tabs on power politics in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir

Not the one to spare anyone on a faux pas, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann himself goofed up and got the facts wrong about badminton sensation Tania Sharma who recently won a silver at the US Open Super 300 championship.

Keeping tabs on power politics in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir

Congratulating the Hoshiarpur teen on her stupendous success on social media, the CM wrote that she had brought glory to Punjab and the country by winning the junior women’s singles final by defeating a US player. In fact, Tania had competed in the senior category and was defeated by 32-year-old top seed Beiwen Zhang in the finals. Some social media users corrected the CM without trolling him but he did not admit the gaffe. Following CM's message, his col-Teague and local government minister Rav-jot Singh also uploaded a post congratulating Tania Sharma “on becoming world number 1 after defeating the American player in the Junior Women’s Singles.”

Phillaur MLA Chaudhary back in action

After the revocation of his suspension from the Congress party, Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary has resumed his political activities and started meeting with senior party leaders. Having remained inactive for almost a year, he shared updates on his recent engagements through social media. Chaudhary, who had earlier resigned as the chief whip of the Congress in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, stated that he had met with Congress Legislature Party leader Partap Singh Bajwa and state unit president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring to discuss the strategy for the upcoming assembly session. Chaudhary was suspended from the party due to his anti-party stance and indiscipline after his family was denied a ticket from Jalandhar in the 2024 general elections. However, even after his return, he has maintained distance from the affairs of the Jalandhar Congress Committee due to the dominance of Jalandhar MP and ex-CM Charanjit Singh Channi, with whom he does not share a cordial political relationship.
