Five Killed Across State as Rainfall, Storms Continue

Four members of a family, including a 10-month-old infant, were killed after the wall of their house in Uttarkashi collapsed on Thursday evening, while a 55-year-old trader of Tanakpur lost his life at Batnagarh on Purnagiri temple road in Champawat the morning on Friday after he slipped over debris accumulated due to a landslide, officials said, as heavy rains continued to lash the state.

DEHRADUN/MUSSOORIE/RUDRAPUR:

The deceased family members were identified as Gulam Hussain (26), his wife Rukma Khatoon (23), and their children Aabid (3) and Salma (10 months), while the trader was identified as Chandrapal.

Upon receiving the information of the wall collapse, teams from the revenue department, state disaster response force (SDRF) and police reached the spot and recovered their bodies.

SDRF Commandant Arpan Yaduvanshi said: "We received information from the Mori police station today about a house collapse incident in village Mora, in which some people were reportedly buried under the debris. Upon receiving the alert, our team, led by Sub-Inspector Deepak Kuniyal from our Mori post, rushed to the spot.

"Village Mora is located along a footpath approximately one kilometre uphill from the main road. Our team reached the site and immediately launched a search operation," he said.
