Samajwadi Party legislator Abu Azmi was on Wednesday suspended from the Maharashtra assembly till the remainder of the ongoing budget session over his remarks praising Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
MUMBAI: Samajwadi Party legislator Abu Azmi was on Wednesday suspended from the Maharashtra assembly till the remainder of the ongoing budget session over his remarks praising Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
A motion to suspend the four-time MLA was moved by parliamentary affairs minister Chandrakant Patil and was passed by the assembly by a voice vote.
"Azmi's comments are an insult of democratic institution of the assembly," Patil said.
