Adventurer, Agatha expert Joan dies at 105

Joan Nott died peacefully in her sleep on August 31 at the Aveland Court Care Home where she lived. Joan led an adventurous life and was renowned in Torquay for her skills as a tour guide, and especially for her knowledge about the life of the bay's biggest export, crime novelist Agatha Christie.

Joan celebrated her 105th birthday on May 28, with a party at the care home in the company of daughters Linda, Celia and Hilary, and sons-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and friends and members of Torquay's Inner Wheel Club, of which she had been a member for more than 60 years.

A source of great pride for Joan on that occasion was receiving a birthday card signed by His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla, to accompany one sent by Queen Elizabeth II on her 100th birthday, which she spent alone due to the coronavirus pandemic lockdowns.
