New Douglas chiefs willing to help give Accies a route home
Hamilton Advertiser
|January 29, 2026
Hamilton Accies could be set to seal a sensational return to New Douglas Park with the owners of Hamilton Community Stadium saying they will 'assist the club in any way possible' to come back to the town.
The club completed a controversial move out of their hometown in June last year, upping sticks to Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld.
But new Accies chief Rob Edwards held positive talks with the owners of New Douglas Park, currently branded the Hamilton Community Stadium, to bring Accies back to the town, less than a year on from the previous regime moving them across Lanarkshire.
Accies signed a two-year lease with North Lanarkshire Council last summer with the option of a third year "if necessary" under former owner Seref Zengin and ex-chairman Jock Brown, who said at the time the club had "absolutely no option" to move on after a fallout with the stadium operator and former Accies owner Colin McGowan.
The move went down like a lead balloon with fans, local businesses and local politicians and has been criticised ever since.
