Thief knocked out by man with knife in shop car park

A MAN armed himself with a knife and knocked out a thief with one punch after he had broken into his cousin's car.

He called the police to report the thief but officers looked at CCTV footage which captured the assault.

Tuncay Karakulah, 40, was called by his cousin who worked at the Marmaris kebab shop in Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil, in the early hours of May 25 last year to say a customer had broken into his car.

The defendant then drove from his home and confronted the thief, who had recently ordered a pizza.

A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court heard the victim later told police he had been followed into the car park by Karakulah, who pointed something at him.

The next thing he remembered was feeling a blow to his head and falling to the floor unconscious.
