Wiebes wins Gent-Wevelgem to take 100th career victory

WEVELGEM: Dutch cyclist Lorena Wiebes won the women's Gent-Wevelgem one-day classic for the second yearrunning on Sunday, beating Italianrider Elisa Balsamo and her compatriot Charlotte Kool in a sprint at the end of the 169km race.

The win was also the IOOth in the career of the sprinter from the SD Worx-Protime team, and her seventh of the 2025 season.
"I am very, very happy, you always want to win and everytimeit works outit's fantastic," said Wiebes.
Last Thursday, 26-year-old Wiebes won the Brugge-De Panne, four days after her success in Milan-San Remo.
As in the "Classicissima", Wiebes was ably assisted in the win by her Belgian team-mate and world champion Lotte Kopecky.
"We knew we had to go for a bunch sprint, that was the plan. The other girls kept the pace high and Lotte did the leadout," added Wiebes.
"I can trust her completely, I just had to follow her. She was all the time with her head in the wind and did a fantastic leadout for me."
Meanwhile, Mads Pedersen of Lidl-Trekdefended hismen's Gent-Wevelgemtitle with a dominantvictory.
