KP governor administers oath to 25 opposition lawmakers

Once again there was high dramain Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Sunday as provincial governor Faisal Karim Kundi administered oath to 25 new members-elect after Speaker Babar Saleem Swati could not do it as a lawmaker of the ruling Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) pointed out a lack of quorum in the KP legislature.
It was a deliberate move by a faction of the PTI, opposed to Chief Minister Ali Amin Gundapur not to have sufficient quorum in the KP assembly so that the oath was not administered to the newly elected members by the speaker. They were irate over the distribution of tickets for the Senate elections to be held on July 21 and an agreement worked out between the PTI with the full support of the chief minister and opposition parties over the election of the new senators.
