Kochi Metro marks 8th anniversary; daily ridership rises

On its 8th anniversary, Kochi Metro has reported record daily ridership resulting in a surge in operational profit, according to official sources.

On all working days, over 100,000 passengers travel on the Kochi Metro.
Last year, the total passenger count was 3.5 crore, and this year, the expectation is to cross 3.65 crore.
The annual ridership was 10,071,036 in 2017-18, the year services began. This figure rose to 24,881,600 by 2022-23.
Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is among the top Indian metro companies to achieve operational profit within a short span of service.
In the financial year 2023-24, it recorded an operational profit of Rs22.5 crore.
Officials estimate that this figure will be even higher in 2024-25.
