Kerala Governor questions SC's role in appointing VC

Arlekar has raised pointed questions over the Supreme Court's recent intervention in the appointment of vice-chancellors, asserting that the constitutional and statutory authority to appoint heads of universities rests with the Chancellor and not the courts.His remarks come at a time when university governance has emerged as one of the most contentious issues in Kerala's public discourse, marked by sustained friction between the Raj Bhavan (Governor's office) and the state government.
A recent meeting, held on the directions of the Supreme Court, between two cabinet ministers and the Governor failed to break the deadlock over VC appointments.
