Jagadish, Shweta in race for AMMA president's post

As veteran Malayalam superstar Mohanlal opted out from the presidential race of Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), actors Jagadish and Shwetha Menon have filed nominations for the post in a keenly contested election, scheduled to take place on 15 August.
Actors Baburaj and Raveendran have submitted their nominations on Thursday, the last date for filing, for the post of general secretary and vice president respectively.
Jagadish is said to be actively seeking support from fellow artistes for his presidential bid.
While initial reports had suggested that Mohanlal might continue in the post unopposed, he later chose to withdraw from the race. Actors Jayan Cherthala, Ansiba, Sarayu, Na Kurup, Lakshmi Priya, Anjali Nair, Kailas, Nandu Poduval, and Asha Baby have submitted nominations for various positions in the 17-member executive committee.
