The tiny seafront restaurant serving up the best Asian food you'll find

Formerly Cosy Corner Lounge, this beachfront restaurant in Porthcawl has been rebranded as Asiad and specialises in Asian fusion dishes.

FOR almost a decade, Cosy Corner Lounge built up a reputation for being the place to go in Porthcawl if you wanted the best seasonal dishes served on small plates - along with a cocktail or two - in a gorgeous location.

Based on the seafront, it amassed awards and, perhaps more importantly, was the place that locals would recommend for the perfect evening out.

But a few months ago, the Cosy Corner signage was removed and some were left concerned that the venue was closing down.

Luckily, the team was going nowhere and instead decided to rebrand to highlight the evolving menu and restaurant vibe.

Today, the restaurant is called Asiad (“Asian” in Welsh) and the name instantly connects diners to the Asian fusion style of food served there.

But does it live up to its name?

We booked an early-evening table on a Friday and the restaurant was already busy when we got there, with people enjoying drinks in the bar area.

As we were a little early and our table wasn't quite ready, we grabbed a window seat and ordered some drinks, including a pint of lager and a Lychee Hot Honey Margarita (£9) from the cocktail menu.

The cocktail was as pretty as a picture, with one half of the glass salted and the other clear so you could choose if you wanted to add the saltiness to the drink, which had a glorious kick and gave a preview of the spiciness to come.
