More than a dozen revellers were arrested at an illegal rave in Somerset at the weekend.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that 13 people were arrested by officers at Asham Quarry near Frome, following reports of loud music from local residents.

The force said it received reports of loud music early in the hours of Sunday morning, with officers estimating about 200 people in attendance and 100 cars.

A spokesperson for the Avon and Somerset Police said a section 65 order of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 was placed on the unlicensed music event at 3am by the duty superintendent which prohibited further people from entering the area. The force apologised to the local community for not being able to bring the event to a close earlier because of the difficult terrain at the quarry and too many attendees being drunk.
