A SYSTEMIC CRISIS IN GLOBAL GOVERNANCE & STRATEGIC MYOPIA

On June 4, Pakistan was appointed as Chairman of the Taliban Ban Committee of the United Nations Security Council and Vice-Chairman of the Anti-Terrorism Committee - this appointment was made when Pakistan received significant financial assistance from global financial institutions.
This includes a $1 billion instalment from the IMF, a $ 40 billion long-term investment plan declared by the World Bank for a period of 2026-2035, and a assistance package of $800 million from the Asian Development Bank, with a $ 300 million policy loan and a guarantee of $500 million. This development is a matter of serious concern as it indicates that international community is not only rewarding a state that has deep & long relations with extremist organizations, but also providing it validity.
The most worrying thing is that this development occurred at a time when India launched an accurate military operation to destroy the terrorist launchpad located across the Line of Control under 'Operation Sindoor'. This action was taken in response to the continuous challenge of cross-border terrorism sponsored by Pakistan's secret agencies. While India was taking decisive action for its sovereignty and safety of citizens, the international system was seen rewarding the state which is at the root of these dangers. This raises serious questions not only in terms of Indo-Pak relations, but also for the credibility of the global terrorism system and the moral credibility of international institutions.
