“TCS RECENTLY ANNOUNCED plans to lay off over 12, 000 employees worldwide, including American staff.

For example, TCS laid off nearly five dozen employees in its Jacksonville office alone last month. At the same time you have been laying off American employees, you have been filing H1-B visa petitions for thousands of foreign workers,” the lawmakers stated in their letter.

The senators also referred to an ongoing Equal Employment Opportunity Commission probe into allegations that TCS discriminated against older American workers in favour of younger, South-Asian visa hires.

The lawmakers have sought responses by October 10 on whether TCS makes a good-faith effort to recruit Americans first, if wages and benefits are aligned across categories, and how many of its H-1B staff are directly employed versus placed through contractors.

An email with detailed queries sent to TCS on the matter remained unanwered till the time of going to press.
