Not an official round, says commerce ministry official

INDIAANDTHE US will restart dialogue on the first tranche of a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) in New Delhion Tuesday, in the first clear sign in recent weeks that both sides are keen ona deal.

Brendan Lynch, the US chief negotiator, was scheduled to arrive here late Monday for a daylong meeting with Rajesh Agrawal, special secretaryinthe commerce ministry, the latter said here.

Stating that this is still not an official round of negotiations, Agrawal said it would nevertheless bea discussion on the trade talks and mark a “continuation” of the process.

The intent is to explore how both sides could reach an agreement, he added.
